Castrojeriz to Fromista

15.2 Miles

Our journey today started off with a steep climb to reach to top of the meseta. We left in the dark and began climbing as the sky began to streak with color. About halfway up, we decided to try to reach the top before sunrise. This idea came from a fellow pilgrim as he passed us! We did make it, then waited about 15 min for the actual event.

It was a shorter walk across, and then a sharp descent into a valley of rolling hills and farmland. Not too difficult today, and we were grateful because it was a longer one. After about 11.5 km, we came into Itera de la Vega and stopped for breakfast, along with a fellow pilgrim whom we knew from being in the same albergue for the last two nights.

We continued our way through more rolling hills until we came the Rio Pisuerga. Crossing the stone bridge, we journeyed on, passing through Bogadillos as we ticked off the next 10.6 km.

The last 5.8 km were very pleasant, along a wide, tree-lined canal. With a breeze blowing, finished our day, crossing a small dam at the end of the canal to enter Fromista.

After checking in, showers, and some rest, we explored some bit. Picked up some supplies at the supermercado, then looked for a place to sit and relax.  Ran into some other pilgrims whom we knew,  and ended up having dinner with them, and making new friends, too.

Gea and her daughter Mags are finishing here, then picking back up next year. This the 2nd of 4 stages they are going to complete the Camino. So ee wished them well, hoping  to see them in  Aruba while we’re sailing!
