13 miles
With a shorter, easier journey today, (after breakfast this time!) we headed out with a spring in our steps. We immediately ran into a couple from Colorado we had journeyed with for a few miles the day before, walking with them for some time. After a rest stop with an additional couple, we started out again, already past the halfway point.
The walk was much easier…that is until we started descending. We had to navigate through an area of very intense rock formation lasting about a mile. While this doesn’t sound too bad, in a word, it was. This stretch and the one following are called the Dragon’s Teeth. Enough said. The photo doesn’t do it justice.
Any hiker will tell you a steep descent is much harder than a climb, especially with an extra 15 pounds on your back. But, we made it, slowly…except my knee was bothering me by the end of it.
OK…On we go!
Then we came to the very last ½ mile or so and we were back in the Dragon’s teeth!except more extreme. A drop of over 300 feet. By the time we reached Zubiri, my knee was in bad shape. So, to the farmacia for treatment. Not the best ending to the day. But with rest, ice, ibuprofen, and lots of prayer, I’ll be back on a flatter road tomrrow headed for Pamplona.
Buen Camino!
Hope you get some rest and knee gets strong again! The pictures are beautiful! Hugs to you both!
